Frequently Asked Questions

Garden Rooms Essex logo
  • Will I need planning permission?

In most cases, you do not need planning permission. If the garden room is built no higher than 2.5mtrs high you can position the structure tight to the boundary. However, we advise that you leave room for future maintenance.

  • Will I be able to use the garden room in the winter?

All our garden rooms are built with all-year use in mind. We fully insulate the floor, ceiling and walls to the same standard as a new build house or extension. This will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

  • Will I need heating?

All our garden room are fitted with a wall mounted heater to provide heat in the colder months so you can enjoy year-round use.

  • Will I be able to use my computer in the garden room?

As standard we provide electrical sockets and lighting in all our garden rooms. We will also run data cables if possible, to allow you to use your home’s internet connection.

  • Will I need an electrician to connect my garden room to my domestic electrical supply?

We connect the garden room to your house supply as standard and, where possible, provide consumer units with full certification from a registered electrician.

  • I have a terraced house with no side access, can I still have a garden room?

Our garden rooms are truly bespoke and are always built from the ground up on site. We do not use prefabricated panels like a lot of companies. Our ground screw foundations allow us to access to the most awkward sites and we can create a garden room that will fit perfectly in your garden regardless of shape or size.

  • How long will my garden office take to build?

This is dependent on size, style and specification. We aim to build most garden rooms in 3-4 weeks, from the site clearance to handing over the keys.
